Fun Things That Happened at the Old Apartment

Oh Boy! The memories!

So a buddy on Facebook posted a photo of the snow she got when it snowed here in Houston and I recognized the townhouses in the photo being close to my old apartment! This brought up all of the fun memories of the crime sprees so here is a story for you.

One of my all time favorites was during a couple of days off I stayed home to play video games and it was around midnight and I heard really loud music. I did not think anything of it because when the downstairs neighbors were getting it on they always turned up their music so I ignored it. Someone called the cops about the noise though and I got distracted by the sirens and the yelling so I looked out my window to see what was going on.

Apparently it was not the neighbors but a guy who had stolen a brand new silver corvette and parked it right under my window and was blaring the stereo to kingdom come! And when the cop came and checked things out and realized it was a stolen car he called for backup and the shouting match began! He had his gun drawn and the thief would not get out of the car no matter what.

Now two helicopters are flying over head with the spotlights and the cop is yelling and screaming at the guy along with a few other cops. This goes on until 7am. I could not stay up much longer but I did see the guy get hauled away in handcuffs, but it was non-stop yelling and screaming for hours and hours. The cops caused a lot more noise then the thief!

OMG it is SNOWING in Houston!! And we had fun in San Antonio too!

So I am at work right now and looking out the window. I think I am hallucinating but I am not, it is fur reals snowing outside! IN HOUSTON! HOUSTON! Land of the 85 degree outside, wear shorts and flip flops, Christmas!

And I will cry me a river, I forgot to bring my camera! Hopefully it will still be snowing once I get home so I can take some photos for Alan. *Update I have a few photos here is one with my little snow swan. :)

SNOW! IN HOUSTON!

(No worries, my outdoor kitty Silver is safe dry and warm in the garage where she has tons of blankies and even an electric one to keep her snug as a bug in a rug. Even in weather like this, it stays close to 60 in the garage. It's insulated and everything.)

This past weekend we went to San Antonio for Alan's work Christmas party which I always look forward to every year. San Antonio is sooo romantic this time of year with the Riverwalk and all of the Christmas lights. I will need to dig through my photos to see if I have any good night shots with the lights.

We went all around the Riverwalk, took the boat tour (I love to do this with Alan every time we go...he is probably tired of it but I still love it so much).

They take you all around the horse shoe shaped part of the river and tell you interesting stories of the buildings and such. And I can see baby duckies on the way.

One of my favorite things to see around the Riverwalk are the trees. So large and full of beauty all year round.

I can't get enough of them. Lots of different species there to see and enjoy.

I took this photo of this lovely tree over my shoulder on the boat. :D

Walking along the Riverwalk you will see HUNDREDS of ducks, mostly mallards but to me they are all so beautiful. After all ducks are my favorite bird, they waddle when the walk, are bottom heavy, have shiny black eyes...wait I am not describing myself!

Look at this pretty little momma here! I think I woke her up. Sorry!

We also went to the Tower of the Americas in Hemisfair park and the view was outstanding.
After the work party and diner we went out with some buddies to the local comedy club.

And well happy surprise, the headliner was Carlos Alazraqui, you might now him as Officer Garcia of Reno 911! or the voice of the Chihuahua from Taco Bell and Peter Griffin's boss at the Toy Factory on Family Guy.

He was hilarious and the nicest guy ever, let me give him a hug and take a photo and autographed a couple of DVD's for us!

I just got to know how he does the clown horn trick.

Weeeeeeee SNOW in HOUSTON!

My all time favorite Soaps

Ahhhh nothing says relaxing like handmade vegan soap! Featured here are some of my all time favorite products from my favorite soap shop the Anderson Soap Company at Etsy.com. Out of all of the 'Bath and Body works' type shops, I prefer Anderson Handmade soaps by far, the quality is amazing! Customer service is always great and shipping is super fast too.

This beauty of midnight black is the Anise (Licorice) which smells so fragrant. It is also a 'stink fighter' and fisherman have used Anise for ages to get rid of that fishy scent they acquire.

It is kosher glycerin soap and makes my skin feel oh so smooth! The scent left on my skin is soft and faint and very clean.

Ever tried Fluffy Whip soap? It is awesome, it has the texture of whipped cream and is smoothing like a lotion but lather like a soap! Nothing like you have ever experienced before! Mango Madness and Coconut Obsession are my two favorites.

They carry this in a lot of scents, some are too good to be true and I have to remind myself that I can not eat soap.

A little goes a long way, so one container can last you a good while.

A new product line that I just tried is the Linen and Room Spritz or Spray. I ordered the Homespun Vanilla and the Lavender Dreams.

These work great, helped freshen up a pillow without an over powering scent and even helped freshen a rather large room with only a couple of sprays.

I need to get some more scents soon!

Also new is the wonderful lotions! The Vanilla is the first one I have tried and the scent is amazing. The lotion is kind of liquidy in texture but works fantastic!

My skin absorbed the lotion rather quickly and stayed soft for over ten hours. It has been the best thing so far for my dried out winter skin.

I also highly recommend the luscious lip balm and the solid perfumes and if you want to smell like a rose garden, don't stop yourself from trying the Rose Geranium body wash.

Here is a funny picture of Dennis Anderson (the guy who makes the soaps) and his angelic wife having fun with their fun mustache soaps! Please give them a visit you will enjoy these greatly and they make great gifts!

Ok after work I am taking a bubble bath...twist my arm!

Holiday Shopping Mishaps...

Geez!!!!!!! BUYER BEWARE

I do most if not all of my shopping online, all year round. The only things I can't buy online yet are gasoline and groceries (used to be able to!). And most of the time I never have anything missing or wrong items shipped to me...until this year.

Target.com shipped me 12 huge gold plates instead of 4 stocking holders, but quickly and professionally corrected the mistake. So they are still on my good list.

JamieNoel on Etsy.com is now back on my good list, she resolved the issue with wonderful professionalism even to the point where I am a customer for life. She refunded the item in full, so I took off the negative feedback and left positive.

If the item does come in I am going to pay her what was re-funded to me.

SHE ROCKS!
*Updated 12/7/08

lizarietz on Etsy has a really odd odd odd sense of customer service. I paid for a fantastic wool cloche from her shop on Nov. 6th. I know they are custom made so I know it would take some time, so I was patient with my order. I waited until Dec. 4th to see about tracking info. She writes back saying it was shipped Nov.7th. Impressive, but I still don't have the lovely cloche and the Post Office has no idea where the item is since seller shipped it First Class which has no tracking. Funny thing is...I NEVER got any kind of notification from the seller even my Etsy purchase log says it has not been shipped yet. So I asked for either a replacement to be sent or a refund (Frankly I don't give a damn about the money...I wanted her lovely hat!) and she said I should pay additional to have another one made. In all of my years of internet shopping I have never ever heard of such a thing. What kind of customer service is this? So instead of $45 for a cloche, with her new *discount* pricing I would end up paying $70.00 total for one of her cloche's. She says in the hundreds of cloche's she has sold she has never had one lost in the mail and this is a fair resolution. Not by US law standards or Paypal policies! She says she is not responsible because it says so in her store policies...sorry but US LAW and PayPal polices trump that and since she accepted PayPal as a form of payment guess who wins.

If I had ever EVER asked one of my customers to pay half of their order in addition to what they have already paid to get their order, one that is ILLEAGAL so I would be facing charges and TWO I would be insta fired.

How hard is it to understand that if a customer pays for a good, it is the merchant's responsibility to make sure they get the item? If this were legal don't you think BIG business would be practicing the same 'ethics'?

Needless to say, I am probably going to have to file a claim with Paypal (I am going to give liza a couple of days to come to her senses to give her a chance)...I hate this so much and I have never had to do this before!

*Update, Liza did show proof of shipping but still will not refund the order - 12/8/08 I will no longer do business with her.

Signing off, oh and Merry Christmas AND Happy Holidays!
